Sensory Play with Baby on the Inspire the Senses Developmental Playmat

This is the last post in our series about Sassy’s new Inspire the Senses Developmental Playmat by Sassy. We are going to spend some time discussing the unlimited interaction possibilities the playmat Sassy provides, and why they are important. Gosh, a whole month on one product – we’ve never done that before! We’ve gone over:

Today, as a wrap up (and let me give you a hint – this is a GOOD THING TO WRAP UP BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS!), I’m going to share some of my favorite Inspire the Senses Developmental Playmat by Sassy features that encourage contact, communication and collaboration with your little one.

Peek-a-Boo Features - The peek-a-boo flap on the mat reveals a surprise when you flip it open. It is filled with crinkle material that will make interesting sounds for your little one. It also has a surprising and new texture for your baby to discover. The flap helps to engage in interaction with your little one. Peek-a-boo is a great game for your baby before he develops object permanence.

Hanging Toys – These hanging toys provide fascinating, bright colors for your baby. The contrast will stimulate baby’s vision and keep his interest. Baby can reach for them and swat them to understand cause and effect. While baby is focused on tummy time activities, you can remove the toys from the arches and place on the mat loops and show each toy to baby during tummy time.

Sound and Musical Toys
– The playmat is full of toys that will help your baby understand sound location and differentiation: the clackers, bird chime, bug rattle and song bird in particular. One of my favorites is the musical bug toy. Place the soft bug toy in baby's hand. As she holds the toy, help her press the button to play the sound. The lovely tune will surprise and delight baby. When the music plays as she grasps the toy, she will begin to understand the cause of her action.

If you haven’t been able to tell by now, I love this playmat. As a pediatrician and mom, I am confident that it will help your baby develop their senses, motor skills, muscles and brain in a safe and fun way. If you have any questions about the playmat, please let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
